Fade Friday – Pure Blue Japan XX-005 (10+ Years, Unknown Washes & Soaks)

Jason in NYC has worn his Pure Blue Japan XX-005 Jeans for over 15 years but if you ask us, they don’t look a day over 30! Possibly the purest submission I’ve seen in our Fade Inbox, our guy bought these all the way back in ’07 at Blue in Green after trying on nearly every pair of jeans in the store! After having them hemmed while he waited, Jason proceeded to wear ’em nearly every single day for 3 years straight before letting them go part-time for the next 7.

From playing sports and crowd surfing to traveling overseas, these jeans, and their owner have lived a pretty exciting life and have the fades to prove it. Achieving an extremely well-worn smattering of blue hues, they tick all the boxes. From whiskers and honeycombing to yellowish staining on the thighs, here is someone who clearly got their money’s worth from his pantalones.

As for maintenance, Jason has gotten these jeans repaired by none other than Pey, the sashiko master over at @sashikodenim on multiple occasions, only adding to the individuality of the aesthetic and story. And as far as water is concerned, he’s done it all from the tub soak to the eventual machine wash after enough time had passed.

It’s so cool seeing a submission from such an OG in the denim game and seeing his experience on the community, which had firm roots on Superfuture and didn’t lend itself to skinnier cuts at the time. And yes, those super old pics WERE taken on a Verizon enV – and yes you CAN see the Dunks sticking out! Thanks for taking us on a trip Jason.
