Fade Friday – Sugar Cane 55th Anniversary Edo-Ai Jeans (1 Year, Unknown Washes & Soaks)

These are some sweet fades. Literally. My pair of Sugar Cane Edo-Ai Anniversary Jeans have Sugar Cane fibers woven into the denim. Some of you may be familiar with the Japanese brand Sugar Cane’s usage of the sweet plant in their denim, which you can find used in their Hawaii jeans, and sometimes a limited Edo-Ai jean.

On these, the warp yarns were dyed with natural indigo using indigo dye processes traditional of the Edo period in Japan. That explains the green hue on the denim, which is extra apparent when the jeans have faded, like my pair has.

I’ve worn these jeans consistently (4-5 days a week) for about a year. That’s right, only a year! You might wonder how they’ve lightened up so much in that time, but it’s just regular washing (like once every week or two). There are no sharp high-contrast lines due to my frequent washing, and I think due to the average weight of the denim, it’s not super suited for high-contrast fading anyway. Good thing I like an all-over vintage style wash. The holes on the front are from using a box cutter and accidentally grazing my jeans, which was honestly a happy accident, as they add a little personal touch to the denim.
