Fade of the Year contenders right here, folks. I don’t usually send our Fade submissions to our managing Editor, David, but this time around, I just had to. “It’s like they went through a belt sander!” was his response. We’ve become accustomed to seeing this breed of intense denim evolution that’s almost like a caricature of denim fades — especially from Southeast Asia —but we haven’t seen anything like this pair of Adelaide Denim 23 oz. Indigo x Grey Denim Jeans in a while.
Coming to us from Heddels reader Teguh over in Indonesia, this pair of Adelaide jeans is simply off the charts. Sure, Teguh had a helping hand with the denim being over 20 oz. and Indonesia being super warm and humid, but let’s take nothing away from the vigorous wear they’ve put in during the year they’ve worn them. Yeah, that’s not a typo, guys. Just 1 Year. Within that year, these Adelaids have adorned Teguh’s legs during his work as a courier, delivering up to 100 parcels a day via motorcycle.
And before skeptics come in the comment section calling cheat, I’ve been to Indonesia, and I can confirm there is heavily faded raw denim everywhere. The climate simply cooks the fades in, and there is a thriving raw denim community over there that loves heavyweight selvedge.
Anyway, what Teguh has earned here is a set of fierce fades. The seat looks like it’s been scratched up by a denim-hungry tiger, with sharp whiskers shooting around the top section and down towards the knees, and the honeycombs have wrapped around, too, creating deep ‘knee craters’ (a term coined by long-standing fades writer, Ben). Heck, there’s even some whiskering on the shins. Shin craters? I dunno, help me out, Ben.
