One More On – May 2023

Welcome to One More On, a monthly styled series. “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” Thanks but no thanks, Coco Chanel. This series will bring our readers an outfit chock-full of long-lasting basics that you could wear day in and out without attracting much attention, with one more cherry-on-top piece that colors outside the lines a bit. Think of our Five Plus One series, but for fits.

May is a time of transition. You’re in school, until you’re not. It’s cool at night, until it isn’t. Flowers aren’t in bloom, until they are. Dressing for such a time can be confusing, so we’ve put together a look for May with some key pieces that can work year round, but combine for that pre-solstice push you need into summer.

Kaptain Sunshine Stripe Tee

Style-Schematic-Vol.-1---April-'23-black-and-beige-with-stripes

Wide and slightly cropped tees are popping up all over our niche, with makers like Studio D’Artisan, Burgus Plus, and Beams Plus throwing their hats into the ring. Kaptain Sunshine is offering up a super high-quality take on this style with its Hard Twisted Boarder Jersey tee. Yes, it’s not the fit of your standard tee or undershirt, but that’s what makes it shine. In this outfit, we like the contrast of the clean-cut Ivy Fit Jeans with this sloppy-yet-refined tee from the Kaptain, which also has enough texture to set off any ensemble.

Available for $160 at Sunhouse.

Orslow 107 Ivy Fit Jeans

Style-Schematic-Vol.-1---April-'23-dark-blue-jeans-front-and-back

orSlow‘s 107 Ivy Fit is a mainstay for the brand, offering a pure 1960s fit inspired by shots of students on Ivy League campuses in the same era. Even if you’re not going for the Ivy look, the 107 is a workhorse. It’s a clean, slim-straight fit that will work with a plethora of pairings far beyond this selection.

Epperson Mountaineering Tote

Style-Schematic-Vol.-1---April-'23-beige-and-green-bag-front

Whether it’s full of picnic gear or your Sunday pick-ups, there is something about this Canvas Tote from Epperson Mountaineering that just screams spring. Inspired by LL Bean‘s iconic Boat & Totes, this bag by Epperson is cut from that natural cotton canvas that just goes with any mild-to-warm weather outfit. The olive webbing straps will contrast nicely against the raw denim of the jeans in this selection and the Epperson/MiUSA tags will let people know you don’t play when it comes to the luggage department.

Available for $110 at Clutch Cafe

Chamula Concho Bracelet

Style-Schematic-Vol.-1---April-'23-black-red-and-white-braclet

Mixing the mediums of metalwork and horsehair weaving, this Concho Bracelet from Chamula is slightly daintier than, say, a metal link bracelet, making it perfect to pair with the lighter fabrics and breezier silhouettes that spring requires. Handmade in Mexico, expect some patina from that naturally dyed horsehair bracelet, and some on the metal conch to boot.

Available for $48 at Clutch Cafe

Solovair Tassel Loafer in Black

Style-Schematic-Vol.-1---April-'23-black-shoe

Leaning further into the Ivy influence with this edition, we’re hitting the curb with these Solovair Tassle Loafers. Does a Fringed and tasseled Loafer need an introduction?  No, unless you haven’t one the whole jeans and loafers thing yet, in which case introduce your favorite raws (or perhaps the aforementioned orSlow 107s). You won’t look back!

Available for $130 at Heddels Shop

One More On – Beams Plus Boat Jacket

Style-Schematic-Vol.-1---April-'23-cherry-front-and-back

We’ve discussed how heritage brands — like Beams Plus — have taken more and more sartorial influence from the 70s and 80s. And while we’ve definitely seen some styles that probably won’t outlast the trend, nylon windbreakers will always be here to stay.

The best thing about nylon jackets like this Boat Jacket by Beams Plus, is that there are dozens of colored varieties out there to be the eye-catching centerpiece amongst your habitual garments. Sling this piece on buttoned over the above and you have that bit of pizzazz that every fit needs.

Pairing bold, primary colors like those seen on this Beams piece with elevated staples show you’re not afraid to step outside of the realm of indigos and tonal colors.
