Fade Friday – TCB 50s Jeans (1.5 Years, 27 Washes)

Fade-Friday---TCB-50s-Jeans-(1.5-Years,-27-Washes)-front-and-back

Beautiful vintage-style fades on a pair of TCB 50s Selvedge Denim Jeans.

There are those that live to fade and those that fade to live. And unless I confused that analogy I’m pretty sure Ryan in Ohio is the latter, in the best way possible.

We get a lot of submissions where the jeans seem like they’ve been put through a highly regulated regiment with washes more strategic than the business plan of the company making the jeans. All the glamour creases have been worked hard and the hues are great but we often long for a pair that weren’t babied or meticulously thought out. In other words, a pair that was just worn naturally, bending to the knee of life and not the other way around. Enter Ryan’s TCB 50s jeans.

For over a year and a half, Ryan’s TCBs have seen it all from beer and sweat to, well, more sweat while playing gigs with his band. So when we heard they have been washed 27 times, we couldn’t help but give a standing ovation, not only because it’s a true indicator of hard wear, that’s the most washes in this amount of time that I can remember. This submission alone could mount a formidable defense of the frequent wash. The guys at TCB would be proud of these ones, for sure. They look like a pair of 1950s 501s that have spawned out of an issue of Lightning magazine.

In addition to some TLC needed along the way from blowouts and loose stitches, the jeans have achieved quite the color, with bright ‘off blue’ areas of high wear shining through a still washed-out backdrop. And though you might expect contrast to be a little low on account of the standing appointment with the washing machine, you’d be mistaken! Looking forward to the encore Ryan.
