Not everything Junya Watanabe touches turns to denim, but never forget that when he does want that power at his fingertips, all he has to do is snap his fingers, leaving no garment safe. Even woolen classics like the Mackinaw Cruiser Jacket put on the map by historic Seattle workwear brand Filson.
Teaming up to produce a fresh take on the logging and hunting staple, the two brands combine polyester denim and synthetic leather trim to create a jacket for the catwalk woodsman. Made in Japan, what really steals the show here is the quintessential multi-pocket front consisting of a few roomy snap-front compartments, some side entry action for your hands, and a front left organization station.
But wait – there is, in fact, more. Once you do a cheeky little 360, you’ll notice the back panel has some contrast to it that looks downright technical. This piece isn’t for the workwear heads, but it’s an exhibition of how workwear styles slot perfectly into the high fashion world.
