Canadian movement Stock Tank Supply & Co. are always looking to push things forward, and this release is a testament to the indigo-soaked imprint they wish to leave in the denim game.
The Homage ’23 VSL-304 Royal Country Blues jeans turn the indigo levels up to 11 with a contemporary denim woven by a mill hellbent on keeping the heritage of American selvedge alive. Yep, this 12.2 oz. canyon indigo x blue selvedge is woven by none other than Proximity Mills. After the closure of the Cone Mills White Oak Plant in 2018, the White Oak Legacy Foundation established Proximity Mills as a small mill in Greensboro, NC, that would continue to weave denim on the same Draper looms that produced iconic American selvedge in the White Oak Plant for so many years. Proximity even employs folks who worked at White Oak who have the skills to operate such legendary machinery.
This 100% American cotton denim — exclusive to Stock Tank — features an electric blue weft emphasized by a broken twill weave. If you’re a fan of striking blue fades that sit upon a darker indigo canvas, this fabric will be a seriously enjoyable project for you. In terms of silhouette, the Homage ’23 VSL-304 is a straight leg fit with a mid-to-high rise and a gentle taper through the leg. Think 60s 501 with perhaps a tad more room in the top block. The denim is completely loomstate, so be sure to check the sizing and account for shrinkage.
Each pair of Homeage ’23 VSL-304 is cut and sewn in LA with a button fly, tucked belt loops, utility loop, triple-needle felled inseams, Japanese YKK hardware, and 9 oz. twill pocket bags from Mount Vernon Mills. Limited to just 60 pairs across the whole size run, a 6 oz. vegetable-tanned leather waist patch from Clo’s General Co. closes out this exciting release from the growing Canadian denim label.
