Being in the UK, I’m well-versed in rainfall. Brits talk about the weather a lot (the stereotype is well-earned) because, well, we get a lot of rain and wind here. Somewhere the weather doesn’t suck is Ventura, CA — home of Iron & Resin. Despite being based in the 10th driest state in the USA, Iron & Resin makes a formidable wet-weather companion with its Waterproof Cruiser Jacket.
Coming in the ultimate trio of heritage colorways – black, olive, and tan – the Iron & Resin Waterproof Cruiser Jacket is crafted from heavy-duty 14.75 oz. waterproof waxed cotton canvas. I’ll spare you a monolog about the majesty of waxed cotton, but just know it looks great, repels water, and ages beautifully. It develops a crinkly patina that mirrors your body shape, not too dissimilar from denim. Whether you’re into the same outdoor activities as the Iron & Resin Guys or simply want a rugged-yet-refined jacket to keep the rain off your shoulders, this vamped-up version of the Cruiser Jacket fits the bill and then some.
In terms of silhouette, you’re looking at a classic slim-fitting, hip-length jacket, with gusseted shoulders for improved range of motion. Storage is offered with two front snap-button chest pockets and slanted, cotton fleece-lined lower hip pockets. The Waterproof Cruiser also comes lined with 9oz. yarn-dyed 100% cotton flannel for warmth and comfort, a 2-way Talon zipper, and double-needle felled seams at crucial points.
If you do manage to wear through any points of this jacket, Iron & Resin will repair or replace it for life. Somehow I don’t think you’ll be needing that service, though.
Available for $299 from Iron & Resin.
