Naked & Famous reminds us they can still kick it old school with the made in Japan 12 Aomidori Selvedge Heritage Denim Jacket. But even within the art of reproducing an integral piece of workwear history, you’d be dead wrong if you thought N&F wouldn’t add their own spin on things.
Taking after the short-lived Type II Trucker Jacket, all the signifiers are there – from the front pleats and the cropped fit to the quintessential 2-pocket design. And with its rigid, 16 oz. selvedge denim — woven in Okayama on vintage shuttle looms — it almost looks like an original example lost to the sands of time. However, with wear, this deep indigo selvedge will reveal itself as an innovator of its own through glimmers of green. It’s been subject to a ‘bottom dye’ technique, where a green tint is applied before the indigo rope-dyeing process, resulting in a covert Naked & Famous twist that will reveal itself as the denim fades.
Although the denim is unsanforized, it has undergone a ‘tempi’ process to carefully shrink the fabric — so you can stress less about sizing and enjoy the integrity of a well-made garment suited for everyday wear.
Each jacket is made in Japan and comes with an embroidered maple leaf signifying Naked & Famous’ Canadian heritage and iron buttons that will develop patina with wear and washing.
Available for $472 from Blue Beach Denim.
