For a pair of jeans that exemplify the ethos of American denim, think of Gustin‘s 1968 as a poster child.
Gustin has Just added a brand new ‘vintage straight’ fit to its ever-popular 1968 line. This new cut from the California-based crowdfunded denim maker is based on a pre-50s style — straight in the leg with a fuller thigh, higher rise, and roomy top block. Whether you want a more sophisticated look in the growing swathe of baggy denim options or think of these as a more relaxed silhouette to give your slim jeans a breather, they are the pinch hitter in any lineup.
Weighing in at 13.5 oz and cut and sewn in Cali, at under $100, these jeans carry some serious value. And we haven’t even mentioned the best part – which by the way seems too good to be true. Made from #172 Cone Mills Selvedge denim the legendary White Oak plant — the very same that Levi’s itself used — these jeans are by their very existence part of a legendary tradition. But seeing as the Cone Mills White Oak plant has shut its doors for good and denim makers across the globe worked hard to snap up as many bolts of deadstock Cone as they could, the availability of this fabric is seriously dwindling. Go figure!
