Left FIeld NYC Delivers its Coal Miner Chino In Two Japanese Fabrics

A cornerstone of the NYC denim scene is Christian McCann’s Left Field NYC. Primarily focused on traditional workwear, top-quality production — and some damn fine fabrics — Left Field has been hard at it since ’98.

With the ethos of producing “American clothing that our grandfathers would be proud of”, you can be sure that the brand is offering product which is going to last a lifetime. This time around Left Field is introducing its Coal Miner Chino in two eye-catching Japanese fabrics.

The Coal Miner is a traditional chino in a slimmer fit with a taper from the knee down which features a button fly, set-in hip pockets, rear seat pockets with button closure and a stylish little watch pocket at the top of the right thigh.

Now, let’s get down to business. First up, a 12 oz. Chambray Duck from Nihon Menpu Mills in Japan. We know what you’re thinking—”but isn’t chambray used for shirts?”. Yes, yes it is. But in a hefty 12 oz. weight, you’re not only getting some textbook chambray textured goodness, but also a hard-wearing fabric that’s as robust as denim.

Also worth noting is the use of WWI US Army metal buttons which are hand sewn on this model. A custom order from Left Field’s ‘button bar’ which stores hundreds of vintage buttons which offer a unique way to personalize your wares.

Next up is the Collect Mills Salt n’ Pepper Bedford Cord fabric. Coming in at 10oz. and a direct reproduction of a desirable 1940’s fabric which was used on traditional workwear. Christian also added period-correct reproduction buttons from his stash and finished the chinos off with heavy indigo ticking stripe pocketing.

And yeah you guessed it, these are a limited run and won’t be around forever, so, get to it.

Available for $210 and $220 at Left Field.
