Reproductions that take a historic style and re-interpret it for the modern day are arguably more exciting than ones that simply reproduce the original like-for-like. The CAL-O-LINE Denim Coverall CL211-010 is the perfect example of this.
Based on maybe a Pay-Day or Big Mac coverall/ from the 1950s (judging by the button stamping and red detail stitching) this triple-stitched raglan sleeved blast from an alternate reality past mixes the design of the classic coverall with the cropped length of a shorty engineer vest/ collarless jacket. The result is a jacket that didn’t quite exist, but almost did.
It’s kinda like when you see all those “repro” work shirts out there. You know the ones that look amazing untucked? If the repro manufacturers got really literal with it, you’d look like you were wearing a dress, because original examples were super long as they were designed to be tucked in. In that same vein, this coverall might not protect your lap like longer original examples, but it will definitely break up the silhouette at the right point to make you look your best. Plus, with neppy denim that looks as hard-wearing and rugged as the originals — should you ever have to do a little manual labor — you’d be okay. You know, fashion over function… but also function too.
The CL2110-010 is made in Japan and comes finished with ornate cuff stitching and a branded CAL-O-LINE label on one of the four blouson pockets.
