The Strike Gold Gets Cold With Their Optical Ice Type II Jacket

They say you can fight fire with fire, but this winter, the Japanese denim artisans at The Strike Gold are inviting you to fight ice with ice, by way of their ‘Optical Ice’ Type II Denim Jacket.

This jacket is built from sturdy 15oz. raw denim, but not just any raw denim. This special fabric is milled in Japan, using pure indigo warp and light grey weft yarns, which are woven at a painstakingly low tension to form a super slubby denim with a coarse hand.  At first glance, it may look like any other super high-quality Japanese denim, but the guys at Self Edge say that upon closer inspection, the texture can only be compared to that of a hand-woven rug.

In terms of construction, The Strike Gold went for the all the hallmarks found on the archetypal Levi’s Type II blueprint:  pleats that run adjacent to the button placket, two pockets set at the mid-torso, and a boxy, vintage fit with adjusters at the waist. All this is topped off with two contrasting thread colors — lemon yellow and deep orange — and The Strike Gold’s signature sparkly gold selvedge ID.

Available at Self Edge for $385.
