Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.
If you are looking for comfortable pants that are just as suitable for lounging around the house as they are for casual wear then Drawstring Tech pants are a phenomenal choice. While certainly on the casual end of the spectrum, the new lockdown normal is popularizing socially acceptable loungewear.
While some pairs on this list are more tech-y than others, hopefully each will scratch that practical layabout itch for someone.
1) Albam: Ripstop Drawstring Trousers
These Ripstop Drawstring Trousers from Albam are made of 100% cotton ripstop, which isn’t the most tech-y fabric on the market but is certainly less traditional that regular twills. They’re made in a wide-fitting pattern, with an elasticated/drawstring waist to ensure a secure fit. While these pants are certainly not for everyone, they’re a great choice for those who like baggy fitting pants with a little bit of high tech flair.
Available for £99 from Albam.
2) Barena: Drawstring Pant
If you want a pair of drawstring tech pants that you can wear everyday then look no further than Barena’s Drawstring Pant. Made of a 98%/2% cotton/Elastane blend, the fabric of these pants is a fine, stretchy twill that can look just as good at home or at the office (or home office). With two large, back pockets and a short-than-average inseam these pants are definitely unique, but in such a way that they’re easy to fit into most any wardrobe.
Available for $189 from End Clothing.
3) Kazuyuki Kumagai Attachment: Light Tech Stretch Pants
Kazuyuki Kumagai Attachment has been consistently gaining popularity outside of Japan over the last few years and with good reason. Their Light Tech Stretch Pants are perfect for those who want a tightly fitting pair of tech pants, and only want the highest quality construction and most unique fabrics. This pair is made from a 66% 34% triacetate/polyester blend, which results in a super fine fabric that is stretchy, breathable, and comfortable. With their articulated legs these pants are much easier to wear in a casual setting, that doesn’t mean they won’t sneak their way into your dressier fits.
Available for $285 from Blue Owl.
4) NN07: Tristan Stretch Pants
NN07’s Tristan Stretch Pants are a great pair of everyday pants, especially if you are unsure of what the rest of your day holds. Made from a blended 72%/24%/4% cotton/polyester/elastane fabric, these pants are easy to wear for lounging, going to the store, or the occasional business casual day at the office. With an elasticated and and drawstring waistband, these pants will be a bit hard to wear a tucked shirt with but toss a sweater over top and to cover the waist and you have yourself as versatile an outfit as any.
Available for $175 from Mr Porter.
5) OrSlow: Ripstop New York Pants
If you are a denimhead looking for a pair of non-jeans that still falls into the denim aesthetic then OrSlow’s New York Pants are a great choice. Made from 100% cotton ripstop, these pants have much of the textural interest of denim but in a very different package. Sewn with a shorter inseam these pants are definitely not for everyone aesthetically, but they’re easy to style and will give any outfit a bit more flair than more understated pants.
Available for $245 from Glasswing.
Plus One – Enfin Levé: Ameztu Cargo Pants
If you are looking for a unique pair of drawstring pants then there is no better brand then Enfin Levé. Their Ameztu Cargo Pants are, as their name implies, cargo pants, but they have a wide range of regular and cargo pants all made from the best tech fabrics available. This pair is made from Schoeller Dryskin, a very popular fabric for top tier tech wear, and is finished with fantastic details: sterling silver back accent, RiRi and YKK zippers, Duble Cobrax snaps, and fabric reinforcements at stress points.
Available for €480 from Enfin Levé.
