Carhartt Chase Sock Review

This piece is a part of our Great White Sock Review, which runs down all the different white cotton socks we could get our hands on.

The good ol’ boys in their lifted Dodge Rams would choke on their dip spit if you told them Carhartt sold socks for nearly 20 bucks a pair, but I’m here to tell you they’re worth it.

Fit

The Carhartt sock blends to your foot in the way the best ones I reviewed do. They simply cease to exist within a few moments of slipping them on. They’re also some of the easiest to slip on with no extra effort to take off either.

Fabric

The fabric hits the right notes. They’re plush but smooth, thick but not bulky, and warm without being stifling.

Construction

Construction is very good. Maybe not $20 a pair good, as Carhartt isn’t aiming to make an “art sock” for lack of a better term, but the folks on their QC line definitely aren’t asleep at the wheel.

Conclusion

There’s an anachronistic purity in the Carhartt sock. It feels like what the company would want to put on the feet of all of its blue collar customer base if money weren’t an issue. It feels like the Platonic ideal of a plain cotton work sock. But making the Platonic ideal is expensive, too much so for anyone that would actually work in this sock. And yet, it exists for those of us who pretend. Kudos to Carhartt for not pulling any punches, this is what upmarket heritage should look like from a legacy brand.
