PBS Launches New Documentary ‘Riveted: The History of Jeans’

The history of jeans goes mainstream with the new PBS documentary, “Riveted.” Written and directed by Anna Lee Strachan and Michael Bicks, the new documentary goes over the long history of denim in a way that most Heddels readers will already anticipate. They go beyond the mere cowboys to fashion trope long used in glossy fashion coffee table books and take a deeper look at the fabric’s oft-troubled history.

From slavery to Jacob Davis’ innovation of the hidden rivets, it’s a story worth telling, but one that most of us already know. A good way to bring others in your life into the fold and explain the dynamic and intriguing history of a fabric that is so much more than the material worn by the likes of Marlon Brando and James Dean. Prepare to have many people in your life send you articles about it and watch it so you can keep up with the upcoming episode of Blowout, in which we’ll discuss our impressions of the film in depth.
