For today’s Fade of the Day, we’re changing things up a little, featuring some leather work gear that has been put to the test. Eric Boone of Maryland sent us this CLC Work Gear Tool Holder, and it just proves you don’t need top dollar leather goods to achieve great patina.

Eric and his wife both used it at their respective workplaces to carry utility knives, box cutters, and other miscellaneous tools. On top of that, they also used it around their house for holding nails and pruning shears. These holders are issued to all store-level employees where they work, so it may seem ordinary, but that doesn’t take away from the patina they have achieved together.

These guys don’t baby this holster—as seen by the various gouges, scratches and nicks—but they do know how to preserve it, as they applied a homemade beeswax and mineral oil mixture, as well as Sno-Seal to protect the leather from water and the elements. Usability and practicality never looked so good!
