If the weft of your denim isn’t dyed with pomegranate rinds, what are you even doing with your life? This is the question that I like to think Tanuki asked themselves as they were making their HKR Heavy Kusaki 19.5 oz. Regular Jeans.
But it does make you think – what did inspire these crazy kids? Turns out it was the traditional Japanese dyeing technique known as Kusakizome in which yarns are dyed in a natural dye. And it just so happens that the dye that comes from the skin of pomegranates is great for denim, producing an extra-light shade of green. On the other axis, the warps are indigo dyed in a very meticulous ritual, which leads to an incredibly quick fading fabric.
Featuring a mix of Texan and Australian cotton, you’re treated to a yin and yang of rough and soft, resulting in an approachable nep fest. Keep an eye out for yellow and green specs in the texture.
Complete with the likes of an embroidered Tanuki Logo, bright orange selvedge, and custom buttons, these slim fit, high-rise jeans are the sweetest you’ll ever own. Or I guess sour. But a good sour.
