Q: How would you suggest ensuring you aren’t getting scammed when dealing with overseas sellers of denim machinery?
If you can vet the buyer in any way (e.g. check out their social profiles, past customers, etc.) and pay via escrow, I think you’ll be able to mitigate some of the risk.
Also, I’d definitely reach out to others in the community who have more experience buying/selling/using/repairing this type of machinery. For instance, you may want to reach out to someone like Roy Slaper (of Roy Denim) or Steven Dang (of Railcar Fine Goods), but you might also want to ask stores that have Union Specials (such as Standard & Strange, Self Edge). I don’t think it would hurt to reach out to the communities on r/rawdenim, superdenim, and denimbro forums too.
