Fade of the Day – 3sixteen SL-220X (3 Years, 3 Washes, 1 Soak)

Hey, send in your black fades! Seriously. We actually get more wallet and belt submissions than black denim in our inbox. So kudos to Austin, Texas’ James Swift for doing just that. His reward? An appearance on Fade Of The Day.

His 3sixteen SL-220X’s have taken a beating from daily wear and bike riding during three years of use. For a black-on-black denim (warp and weft), the 220X is incredibly difficult to fade, so when we say these jeans have taken a beating to get to this point we aren’t joking.

The black denim has faded towards a dark grey throughout, with plenty of small patches of lighter fades everywhere you look, as if he’s walked through a cornfield—or five. The start to some great whiskers are peaking through in the lap, while super tall honeycombs and heavy seat fades are also in view. Holes have developed in the crotch and the back pocket has required some nice repair work as well, but for a pair with a really high fading difficulty level, this pair is looking solid!
