Deep within 3sixteen‘s DNA is a love for military garments. You’ve seen it in the vintage army fabrics they’ve used to make hats, blatantly called out in their BDU Shirts, and even in the smaller details like in the crosscut yoke they use for many of their tops.
This season, they’re celebrating 15 years of slinging top-notch garments with an exclusive collaboration with Alpha Industries, a stalwart in military-contracted clothing. The collection focuses on outerwear and features an M-65, an M-59, and a quilted liner. Though Alpha Industries has been producing quality garments of their own for much longer, this collab will be the first time in decades that they’ve produced their goods stateside (bonus: we’ve learned they’re seeking to bring production back to the USA in coming seasons).
Both the M-65 Field Jacket and the M-59 Fishtail Parka use a cotton herringbone twill, a staple fabric in vintage military garb. But the HBT fabric doesn’t come in the wonted olive drab. Instead, in true 3sixteen fashion, it’s indigo-dyed and washed lightly to give it a vintage feel while bringing out the brighter blues that will eventually take over the entire garment with enough wear and tear.
When you need to layer up for those chilly evenings alone with your thoughts, they went ahead and made a quilted liner as well. Using the same back satin fabric as their BDU Shirts from their FW17 season, the liner features onion quilting with poly fill and can be worn on its own or buttoned into the M-65.
As for the fit, if you’re thinking that your civilian body lacks the muscle mass required to fill these heavy-duty duds, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The collaboration was built from the ground up and as such features silhouettes that are brand new to Alpha Industries which are slimmer profiles in line with the rest of 3sixteen’s collection.
