Kiriko and Red Cloud Collective Boro Up Some Backpacks

The Japanese have a long history of repurposing old things and making something new and unique out of the remnants. In that spirit, Kiriko has teamed up with their fellow Portlanders at Red Clouds Collective to bring forth their Boro Backpack. This lightweight bag pays homage to an ancient Japanese process but manages to fuse it with a vintage rucksack style.

With an eye for aesthetics and a penchant for quality, the duo has made the blue-tinged bag with a handsome, heavy 14oz. cotton canvas body that’s patched over and sashiko-stitched with Japanese Boro. It’s all firmly held together with antiqued brass rivets and buckles and YKK , and accented with Hermann Oak vegetable-tanned straps.

Whether you’re going to visit rural Japan or just going to the library to study, this bag is ready for anything.

Available for $375 at Kiriko.
