Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.
It doesn’t get much better than the feeling of putting on a warm robe when you get out of the shower on a cold day. But that doesn’t mean you have to overspend to get a top-notch robe. While you’ll surely get a higher quality piece if you’re willing to spend a bit more, you’ll find that even entry-level robes will leave you feeling calm, relaxed, and ready for a great cup of morning coffee.
1) Reigning Champ: Loopback Cotton Jersey Hooded Robe
Most people know Reigning Champ for their top-quality sweatshirts, and though robes are a bit of a different beast, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that they make a killer one, too. Made in Canada from loopback cotton jersey fabric this robe will arrive comfortable and get even better as its broken in. It’s made with raglan sleeves, a matching fabric belt, and a substantial hood, which gives you that much more warmth.
2) Vermont Flannel: Flannel Robe
Vermont Flannel is many people’s go-to brand for quality, soft flannel shirts, but their Flannel Robe is arguably an even more compelling reason to check them out. With its solid price, large selection of patterns, and unisex fit, this robe is just about as great an entry level robe choice as you can find. Each piece is cut and sewn in the USA to ensure the top-notch quality that you expect to see from your next favorite piece.
Available for $80 from Vermont Flannel.
3) Coyuchi: Unisex Robe
I don’t know what it is about waffle knit fabric, but for me, it often elevates an otherwise great garment into my next favorite piece. So when I saw that Coyuchi was using such a fabric for their Unisex Robe, I knew it had to make its way onto this list. Available in three classic, neutral colors, you can find a size and color combination to fit just about everyone’s preferences. This robe is made from Turkish woven organic cotton fabric, and comes with all the details you’d expect: wrap fabric belt, loose fit, and large front pockets.
Available for $98 from Coyuchi in Alpine White, Fog, and Shadow.
4) IKEA: Rockan Bathrobe
While I’m not stranger to including IKEA in Five Plus One articles when it comes to furniture, this will be the first time I’ve included them for an article of clothing—but their Rockan Bathrobe certainly deserves some recognition. Made from a double-sized 100% cotton terrycloth, this robe is as durable as it is comfortable and would make a great companion for this coming winter.
Available for $30 from IKEA in Gray and White.
5) L.L. Bean: Scotch Plaid Flannel Robe
Available for $70 from L.L. Bean.
Plus One – Anderson & Sheppard: Cotton-Terry Robe
Not everyone wants to spend a bundle on a robe, but for those that do Anderson & Sheppard’s Cotton-Terry Robe is a great choice. As the name implies it’s made from 100% cotton-terry fabric, but that’s far from its most interesting feature. With its horn button closure, double-breasted design, and vibrant colors, this robe is really quite different from anything else out there.
