Steam Ahead In 9 oz. Cotton Drill With Head Lights’ White Boat Sail Work Coat

Toyo Enterprise might not be a name that immediately rings a bell, but you’ll surely know its two main brands by heart: Sugar Cane and Buzz Rickson’s. You may be surprised to know that there are many more brands under the Toyo umbrella, some lesser-known, like Lone Wolf, and Cat’s PawAnd then there are others that are unknown to even the biggest Toyo head.

Head Light Overalls is one such brand, but knowing it’s Toyo, I’m already sold. Like some other Toyo brands, Head Light appears to be a vintage workwear brand to which the Japanese giant has purchased the rights. And this White Boat Sail Drill Work Coat is a reproduction of one of Head Light’s original pieces from the 1930s. This 9 oz. natural drill is cut into a classic work jacket with some archaic details like a chin strap, patented chest watch pocket, and adjustable cuffs. It’s roomy, it’s loose, and it’s damn well meant to be that way.

As ever, Toyo’s prices are accessible, the garment is unique, and the quality superb; this would be a great summer piece to have in the rotation.
