The Rick Owens-designed Converse x DRKSHDW TURBODRK Chuck 70 just dropped and they’re an expectedly dark and twisted take on everyone’s favorite sneak. Rick Owens has referenced the Chuck Taylor silhouette in the past with one of his signature sneaker designs, the Ramones, but now the designer has worked with Converse to exaggerate their iconic sneakers in a way that only the dark lord of fashion can.
The square-shaped toe box and exaggerated tongue are not without precedent, Rick Owens has utilized these details on a number of his shoes and boots over the years, which may be a bit loud for some when thrown on the Chuck silhouette. These shoes may be divisive to those of us who are used to our comfortably round toe shapes on our vintage-inspired sneakers, but if there’s one thing Rick Owens is known for, it’s taking what is ubiquitous and comfortable and distorting it. If you’re brave enough to attempt these coffin-shaped shoes, pair them with your best black denim and some Aphex Twin.
