Buck Mason Acquires Two Facilities in PA to Produce T-Shirts

Scattered amongst the farms and rural communities of Eastern Pennsylvania are the remnants of America’s industrial age. Along with the heart of American steel production, the area used to be home to a significant portion of domestic garment manufacturing. So when Los Angeles-based clothing company Buck Mason saw the opportunity to acquire two of these facilities that were slated for closure in 2022, they pounced on it.

“The t-shirt was born and bred in the USA, from the laborers and service members who wore them first to the cultural icons who made them a part of our everyday lives,” said Buck Mason co-founder Sasha Koehn in a press release. “The t-shirt is not just a uniquely American classic; it’s our first love.” As an additional point of pride, most of the staff at both facilities will stay on with the new owners.

Now, all of the cotton used for Buck Mason’s t-shirt line will be sourced exclusively in the USA and milled at the 150-year-old Mohnton Knitting Mills in Shillington, PA. That fabric will then be cut and sewn at the other facility in nearby Mohnton, PA. Producing a line that includes their signature 145 GSM slub tee, 140 GSM long staple pima cotton tee, and 180 GSM Tough-Knit tee, all of which are available in a slim and classic fit.

This is only the beginning, as the company has plans to move production for more of their line to these facilities in the future. “The Mohnton Mill plays an essential part in the rich history of textile manufacturing and millinery in the Eastern Pennsylvania area, dating back to its opening in 1873.” Explained brand co-founder Erik Allen, “Now we’re bringing that integrity and dignity back full circle.”
