One More On – August 2023

Welcome to One More On, a monthly styled series. “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” Thanks but no thanks, Coco Chanel. This series will bring our readers an outfit chock-full of long-lasting basics that you could wear day in and out without attracting much attention, with one more cherry-on-top piece that colors outside the lines a bit. Think of our Five Plus One series, but for fits.

August—the seasonal equivalent of a bartender screaming, ‘last call’ before the sun drags itself home for an extended leave of absence. The grand finale of summer, in which Mother Nature tries to cram in all the heat, sunburns, and vacation stories she possibly can before September politely taps her on the shoulder and asks, “Mind if I take over?”

August is the month for unpredictable weather, where the chances of experiencing all four seasons in a day are uncomfortably high—a true sartorial dilemma. Alas, I am here with this month’s edition of One More On, the August transitional edition.

Let’s get into it.

The Real McCoy’s All-Weather Swing Jacket in Mint

One-More-On---August-2023-The-Real-McCoy’s-All-Weather-Swing-Jacket-in-Mint

Inspired by the classic military jackets of the mid-20th century, The Real McCoy’s swing jacket is a study in timeless style. The first thing you’ll notice is the striking mint hue, a departure from the traditional earthy tones that dominate military fashion. It’s a color that embodies freshness and individuality, setting it apart from the sea of olive drab.

Cut and sewn from a cotton/rayon blend in Japan, the swing – or drizzler – jacket is a perfect pick for the transitional season. The jacket features a spread collar, zip-front using custom McCoy hardware, dual-piped seam patch pockets with welted openings, button tab collar, cape back yoke, adjustable button cuffs, urea buttons, and an elasticated waist.

The drizzler jacket made its name on American Golf courses in the 1950s. It was kind of America’s answer to the Harrington, recognizable for its unique pockets – jetted slash pockets hidden within a box-shaped patch.

A bit of a rogue pick for me, given I’m practically allergic to color, but a welcome departure nonetheless.

Sunspel Classic T-shirt in Archive White

One-More-On---August-2023-Sunspel-Classic-T-shirt-in-Archive-White

Sticking with the Ivy-esque theme, we have the classic  Sunspel tee in Archive White.

In the world of premium garb, Sunspel tees stand as a testament to the timeless appeal of simplicity and quality. Established in 1860 in Long Eaton, England, Sunspel has garnered a reputation for crafting some of the finest wardrobe essentials known to mankind, and its t-shirts are no exception. Crafted from extremely fine, lightweight cotton from California, each Sunspel t-shirt is handmade in its Long Eaton factory to immeasurably high standards.

To complement and slightly tone down the brightness of the McCoy’s mint All-Weather Swing jacket, I’ve gone with the archive white colorway. You don’t want people to need sunglasses to look at your upper half; it’s bright enough already. Give people’s eyes a break.

Available for $87 from Wallace Mercantile Shop.

TCB 50’s Regular Straight Jean

One-More-On---August-2023-TCB-50’s-Regular-Straight-Jean

I’m not trying to bankrupt you people, so we’re going with TCB’s 50’s regular straight jeans on the bottom half. That’s right, we’re back on the denim train—all aboard.

In the world of vintage-inspired denim, the TCB 50’s Regular Straight jeans stand as a true homage to the iconic ’50s era. TCB, which stands for “Taking Care of Business,” or “Two Cats Brand,” does just that by meticulously recreating the spirit and craftsmanship of the golden age of jeans. TCB’s secret sauce? Its exclusive fabric.

Woven from 100% Zimbabwe cotton, this selvedge denim is rope-dyed to perfection and boasts a slightly slubby, irregular texture. This ain’t your run-of-the-mill fabric—we’re talking unpredictable thread thickness and loom-induced quirks that give it that vintage charm.

Available for $186 from Redcast Heritage.

Paraboot Barth in Lisse América

One-More-On---August-2023-Paraboot-Barth-in-Lisse-América

You don’t need to own a boat to own Paraboot’s Barth boat shoes.

Paraboot’s Barth boat shoes pay homage to a rich maritime tradition that dates back centuries. Crafted in Spain, these shoes have the spirit of the open sea woven into every stitch. Built for action, Paraboot’s Barth boat shoes feature a rugged rubber sole, providing superior grip regardless of whether you’re navigating a slippery deck or trudging through town on a summer’s day.

The shoes feature a piped seam with two eyelets and a Blake construction. Wear them with socks, wear them without; whatever floats your boat.

One More On – Yuketen 1” Triple Stitch Belt in Havana

One-More-On---August-2023-One-More-On---Yuketen-1”-Triple-Stitch-Belt-in-Havana

Skinny belts aren’t like skinny ties—they look good, I promise.

Yuketen‘s leather belts aren’t just belts; they’re a piece of the American dream, meticulously hand-cut, hand-shaved, and handcrafted in the USA. Made from the finest vegetable-tanned English bridle leather, known for its superior strength and durability, Yuketen’s 1” Triple Stitch belt features solid brass hardware and triple-stitch detailing throughout.

Now I’m not one to religiously follow men’s sartorial rules, but I do think it’s smart to match the color of your belt to your shoes. It just makes sense, you know? The tone doesn’t need to match exactly, but at least go with the same color. Luckily, Yuketen’s “Havana” colorway happens to pair beautifully with Paraboot’s Lisse América—a match made in heaven.

If you’re on the fence about wearing a skinny belt, rock it with this fit. Can’t go wrong.

Available for $145 from Clutch Cafe.
