Deus Drops Heavy Leisure Collection

Deus ex Machina just launched a new line of season transcending gear dubbed Heavy Leisure. Following the Australian brand’s taste for ‘70s era adventure apparel, with more of a taste for motor oil than granola, everything is as functional as it is stylish. Each piece is built to handle sun drenched, mud soaked action, while looking nice just heading down the block for a coffee.

The top piece of the collection that could find easy work in any closet is the A-Frame Sweater. Built from a rugged blend of 70% recycled wool and 30% recycled nylon to take the itchy edge off, it’s a beefy waffle knit that offers warmth and breathability. Utilizing a raglan sleeve for an enhanced range of motion, it shows off an interesting broad knit detail where the sleeve and body attach. It comes in a deep black that will match everything except your cat’s fur, or a sage green with speckled detailing akin to old-school hunting gear.

Another eye-catching piece is the Riptide Smock Jacket. Based on old-school ponchos or anoraks — which in turn come from WWII-era military smocks —it provides a weatherproof Cordura shell with taped seams leaving minimal entry points for wind, water, and anything else you don’t want getting in. Apart from the modern technical mateirial, the Riptide design sticks pretty close to its heritage with a high zip neck, kangaroo pouch, and drawcords at the waist and hood. To top it off, this jacket is lightweight and packable. If there is one thing that you can expect from a brand that started out making custom motorcycles before launching a full apparel line, it is form following function.

The collection features construction in both Portugal and China, depending on the garment.
