Deluxeware’s 7640 40s Denim Shirt is Made from 10.5 oz. Memphis Cotton Selvedge

It sounds obvious, you have to wonder why it doesn’t show up more often. Build the best denim shirt you possibly can, then make the chest pocket look like that of a pair of jeans. Like all great ideas, the execution isn’t that simple. The Devil, as they say, is in the details.

The designers at Deluxeware clearly know that the best denim shirt is more than just a cool pocket. You have to start with the right fabric, like a 10.5 oz rope-dyed indigo denim from Ibara Mill of Okayama Prefecture, Japan, woven from 100% Memphis cotton known for its charmingly rough and uneven hand feel. The denim comes raw, with selvedge detailing visible on the inner button placket and the side gussets. The slim cut of the body is complemented by the soft shoulder created by a triple-stitched raglan sleeve. (Note the triple-stitch suns down the sleeve seam as well.) Not only does this cut a sleeker silhouette, it allows a smooth range of motion for the rigid denim.

Borrowing details from 1940s work shirts, the inner collar is lined with an 11 oz duck canvas and topped off with a throat tab. Riveted buttons are tucked away under a hidden placket, creating a smooth front that draws attention to the unique chest pocket. Clearly borrowed from the back of a pair of jeans, the pocket is complete with corner rivets and the decorative stitching used on most Deluxeware dungarees.
