Graffiti artist turned master cobbler, Tamas “Zen” Pomazi, creator of Greenwich Vintage, re-crafts shoes with his custom colored soles and gives old brogues, boots, and chukkas some modern personality. Customers will send him pairs of vintage shoes to re-sole in a variety of sole styles and colors from lemon yellow commando soles to camo ripple soles and everything in between. Often times, he will also experiment with vintage and deadstock shoes to create some truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
Greenwich Vintage’s latest custom shoes turns a pair of Red Wings blue. Or more specifically, indigo. Once a pair of Red Wing #8173 roughout moc-toe boots in a milkshake colorway, Zen has taken a small run of the shoes and has hand-dyed each of them in indigo, dubbing them the Blue Decembers. He’s even indigo-dyed the boot laces to match. And in pure Greenwich Vintage style, the sole may look like the original Vibram sole on any pair of 8173s, but it’s a sole made by the company to glow in the dark. And did we mention that it glows blue in the dark?
The shoes are extremely limited and retail for $545 on their website.
