I bought my first Hawaiian shirt when I went on a school trip to Hawaii – yes, a school trip. When I think of a cool Hawaiian shirt, frames of Leonardo DiCaprio in Romeo + Juliet and Brad Pitt in Fight Club come to mind. My Hawaiian shirt, however, was more along the lines of a Tommy Bahama purchase made by a suburban grandpa golfer. Not exactly the same thing.
This season, German outfitters A Kind of Guise bring the cool (literally) with their tropical palm-tree print Jungle Gioia Shirt. Rather than some rayon blend, their version is made with 100% cotton seersucker, which should allow for better air circulation, and that’s before you take the boxy cut into account. Simply wearing this might not make you look like a young Leo or Brad Pitt, though, just a fair warning.
Made in Germany, this one’s available for $198 at Standard & Strange.
