Fade of the Day – Carhartt Arctic-Lined Duck (10+ Years, 15 Washes)

Workwear-inspired garments are in most of our wardrobes, but how many of us are actually using them for their original purpose? Not many. That’s why we were so impressed when Charles Duran, of Texas, submitted his Carhartt Arctic-Lined Duck Jacket, which he has worn for over 10 years. Charles spent a lot of this time working as a stone mason, and you only have to take one look at this jacket next to its brand-new counterpart to see the hours of manual labor that have gone into the well-earned fades.

The first thing that we noticed was how much patina the cotton-duck fabric has gained. It’s highly faded throughout, especially on the arms, which are fraying at the cuffs. There may be a few small holes, but the lack of any significant damage is a testament as to how tough these jackets are made.

Even though Charles bought a replacement, a few repairs could keep this jacket alive and looking awesome for probably another decade.
