Fade of the Day – Red Wing 8111 Iron Ranger (6.5 years)

These boots were made for workin’, and that’s just what they’ll do. Trevor McCurry, of Atlanta, is the proud owner of this pair of Red Wing 8111 Iron Ranger boots, which are beat to heck after a massive six-and-a-half years of hard wear, but full of patina for this installment of Fade Of The Day.

Trevor tells us these have been his go-to boots for any activity that requires some tough footwear. Working on motorcycles, painting, construction and even hunting were all on the bill for these Red Wings, so it comes as no surprise that they look how they do today. The now-supple leather has developed a dark, tobacco tone, with scuffs showing lighter brown hues. Lacing indents on the tongue and dirt splatters all over the boot complete the lived-in style patina.

They may look beat, but if you’ve owned a pair of Red Wings before, you know a good clean and mink oil treatment can have these bad boys looking spick-and-span again. And judging by what we’re seeing here, Trevor won’t be giving up on these boots anytime soon.
