Tanuki’s Latest Jean Combines Slub and Stretch

Tanuki may be new blood in the Japanese denim game, but their products have received some solid kudos in the last two years. Since it came onto the scene in 2016, Tanuki’s ‘super team’ of highly experienced denim artisans have strived to produce fabrics that stand out in a somewhat saturated market—and they’re keeping the momentum going with their new ‘SEN’ denim.

Deployed on this pair of NSXT “SEN” Natural Indigo Stretch Selvedge Denim jeans, the ‘SEN’ fabric is rope-dyed with natural indigo and constructed from 98% cotton and 2% polyurethane. This blend allows the burly, unsanforized 16.5oz. fabric to accommodate the NSXT jean’s ‘extreme tapered’ fit, a contemporary cut that features a medium rise, slim top block, and an aggressive taper down to the narrow hem opening.

Just like their previous jeans, Tanuki finishes these up with a host of charming details. In addition to a white selvedge ID, these jeans feature a blue inseam thread, gingham pocket bags, a branded vegetable-tanned leather waist patch, and custom engraved silver and copper hardware throughout.
