Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.
Anoraks are a style of pullover jacket designed to keep you warm and dry regardless of the weather. They come in a variety of options including both insulated and uninsulated versions, making them an ideal style for all seasons of the year. That said, today we are focused on lighter-weight iterations of this style, the perfect companion for the coming warmer months.
1) Nanamica: Dock Anorak Jacket
Nanamica produces some of the best pieces of techwear out there, and their Dock Anorak Jacket is a great example of what they do. It’s constructed from a lightweight cotton/polyester fabric that will keep you dry from the elements while remaining breathable. This piece features the standard 1/4 zip closure, drawstring hem and hood, and large front pocket.
Available for $505CAD (~$380USD) at Miloh Shop.
2) Rains: Camp Anorak
Rains Camp Anorak is a great option if you aren’t sure how much you’ll like wearing an anorak, and don’t want to invest too much money. It features a longer silhouette, which is not uncommon for anoraks, and has a hood, quarter-buttoned closure, and kangaroo pocket. With its 50%/50% polyester/polyurethane blended fabric, it’ll keep you dry in a spring shower.
Available for $75 – $109 from End Clothing in Green, Stone, and Black.
3) Gustav Von Aschenbach: The Nylon Hooded Anorak
Gustan Von Aschenbach’s Nylon Hooded Anorak features the 1/4 closure that utilizes velcro rather other, more common methods. It’s constructed from a rich purple, 100% nylon fabric and has all the design specifications you’d expect to find on an anorak — drawstrings at the hood and hem, flannel lined hood, and fantastic made-in-Japan construction.
Available for $226 at No Man Walks Alone.
4) Norse Projects: Kalix Anorak
Norse Project’s Kalix Anorak is another great example of a lightweight, oversized anorak that is perfect from the warmer months of the year. It’s made from 100% nylon for optimal water resistance and minimal weight, and has a ton of great details such as front hand pockets, YKK zipper closure, breathing eyelets under the arms, and drawstring closure.
Available for $315 at Blue Owl.
5) Arc’Teryx Veilance: Conduct Anorak
Arc’Teryx Veilance is one of the most well respected techwear brands out there, and their Conduct Anorak is a great way to get initiated into their wears. It’s constructed from GORE-TEX® 3L C-knit fabric, which is lightweight, breathable, and water resistant, and features all the great details you’d expect from AV. Aside from the top-shelf fabric, this kit comes equipped with zippered collars and pockets, taped seams, and articulated sleeves.
Available for $850CAD($~640USD) at Haven Shop in Black and Loden.
Plus One – Kapital: Kamakura Anorak Blouson
Kapital is probably the single most featured brand on our Plus One section, and their Kamakura Anorak Blouson is only going to add to that grand total. This anorak is made from 60%/40% cotton/nylon blended fabric, but with a fairly unique design. While most anoraks feature 1/4 closure, this one can also open up fully. It is oversized, as many anoraks are, and features all the cinches and pockets that you’d expect to find on an anorak.
Available for $1430 from Unionmade Goods.
