North Menswear Flogs a 1970s Timex Automatic Watch

Okay, what I think I’m seeing here is a vintage watch being sold at North Menswear. Not just any vintage watch though, this is a 1970s Automatic Day & Date Timex watch. Now, I don’t know too much about watches—just the occasional Hodinkee watch collection video once in a while—but I am certain of assuming one thing: at the end of the day, most people are drawn to a watch by its look.

And if you asked me if this claim is an excuse to talk about this watch without knowing much about watches, I’d confidently say “no comment”.

This watch does have “the look” though right? It isn’t exactly bright and shiny but you don’t want it to be. Its perfectly worn in and ready to slip on—looking not flashy but like it belongs on your wrist. And if you thought fading denim was hard, just thinking about how long it takes to get patina like this on a watch.

As I said, I’m no watch expert. But what do I know, I just donated my grandfathers old watch to a local goodwill shop, what was it called—a Daytona Oyster?
