SOSO Premiers The Worlds First 20 oz. Handwoven Black Selvedge Denim

Sweden’s SOSO was founded in 2010 and is the brainchild of Jannis Hoff and Johan Blom. With a passion for jeans and a shared mission to offer affordable, custom made, high-quality denim, SOSO have established themselves as one of Europe’s leading denim innovators.

This time around, they’ve gone where no denim brand has gone before…No, not the deck of the Starship Enterprise. They’ve created the world’s first 20 oz. black handwoven selvedge which is made with entirely natural resources.

Featuring an eye-catching orange selvedge ID, the warp and weft  of this fabric has been dip-dyed 7 times in a Jelawe (an Indonesian fruit) and Tunjung Ferro sulphate solution to create a solid black color. The yarns are then handwoven into denim on shuttle looms with a low tension in order to give it a textbook slub handle.

The fabric comes sanforized to minimize shrinkage and will take some breaking in due to the 20 oz. weight of the denim. As with much of SOSO’s offering, the All Natural Black is available for custom-made jeans and you can also see the fabric fade over time by following Johan’s Indigo Invitational entry.
