Casual Wool Jackets – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

It’s that awkward time of year when it’s too dreary out to wear your favorite summer clothes but too warm for your favorite autumn garments. But that just means retailers aren’t sold out of their best FW23 items yet, so we’ve gone ahead and selected some excellent wool jackets for the coming season. It might take a few weeks before you put some good use into them, but you’ll be glad you got them very soon.

1) The Real McCoy’s: Field Sports Jacket Navy

Wool-Jackets---Five-Plus-One-Field-Sports-Jacket-Navy

The Real McCoy’s is known for their excellent, historical workwear pieces, and their 1930’s 1930s-inspired Field Sports Jacket really exemplifies that. It’s made from broken twill wool fabric with Shinki leather accents, brass hardware, and waist cinches to ensure a proper fit. This jacket is unlined, making it an excellent choice on those cold but not frigid days.

Available for $800 from Clutch Cafe.

2) UES: Wool Hunting Jacket Navy

Wool-Jackets---Five-Plus-One-Wool-Hunting-Jacket-Navy

UES‘s Wool Hunting Jacket is a clear standout for those who like oversized workwear-centric wool jackets. Featuring a blue check pattern, this jacket has two large front pockets and one smaller chest pocket, all with flapped snap closures, as well as two hand pockets.  The jacket is made in Japan, and closes out with oversized leather buttons, and features a smooth lining.

Available for $575CAD (~$425USD) from Brooklyn Clothing.

3) Our Legacy: Haven Jacket Black/Moss Fuzz Wool

Our Legacy‘s Haven Jacket is not entirely made from wool, but the 41%/32%/17%/4%/3%/3% virgin wool/linen/cotton/polyester/acrylic/other blend comes together to form a beautiful twill. With oversized pockets and a boxy fit, this is the perfect jacket to toss on when you’re running out the door and need a little extra warmth. While it won’t keep you as warm as thicker, insulated wool jackets it will certainly be an excellent piece for the fall.

Available for $371 from Lost & Found.

4) Warehouse & Co: Lot 2133 Wool A-1 Jacket

Wool-Jackets---Five-Plus-One-Lot-2133-Wool-A-1-Jacket

Warehouse‘s Lot 2133 Wool A-1 is, as the name implies, a reinterpretation of the classic A-1 flight jacket. It’s made from 100% melton wool with a shawl collar, contrasting knit ribbing at the cuffs and hem, and tightly spaced nut buttons through the placket. Finished with canvas detailing on the underside of the front pockets, Warehouse didn’t spare any expense when putting this piece together.

Available for $480 from Clutch Cafe.

5) Dehen 1920: Submariner Knit Jacket 2.0 – Loden

This version of Dehen 1920‘s Submariner Knit Jacket 2.0 is exclusively made in collaboration with Division Road. Crafted from 100% worsted wool, this heavy-duty sweater jacket will surely become one of your go-to winter coats, slipping on comfortably with its satin lining.

With a strapped button-closed collar, oversized ribbed cuffs, and hidden hand pockets, this is the kind of jacket you’re not going to want to take off when you come in from the cold.

Available for $535 from Division Road.

Plus One – AAlviero: Single-Breasted Knit Jacket

Wool-Jackets---Five-Plus-One-Single-Breasted-Knit-Jacket

AAlviero‘s Single Breasted Knit Jacket is a bit more formal than some of the others on this list given its lapelled collar, but the thicker yarns to weave its 100% wool fabric creates an entirely different aesthetic.

Made in Italy, this jacket has set-in shoulders, a straight hem, and comes sans lining. While this might be a step away from your typical chore or bomber style, this kind of piece will be a shoo-in to any workwear-focused wardrobe.

Available for $345 from No Man Walks Alone.
