Camo Backpacks – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

Most people think of camo as being a specific pattern, but in actuality, it’s more of a style that encompasses dozens of different camouflage patterns. We have outlined many of these in our Understanding Camo: The 13 Patterns to Know article, many of which are featured in this list. While not everyone will like every camo pattern we hope you’ll be able to find at least one that you like, and hopefully a backpack to match.

1) Atelier de L’Armée: Flight Pack – M90 Camo

Camo-Backpacks---Five-Plus-One

One of my favorite things about camouflage fabric garments and accessories is how many of them utilize deadstock fabrics. Take Atelier de L’Armée’s Flight Pack which utilizes Swedish military M90 camo fabric. In addition to this fabric, this pack is made with vegetable tanned leather, Cordura nylon, and stainless steel hardware. This pack features a main cavity with a laptop compartment and small interior pockets, two snap closure front pockets, and two elasticated side pockets.

Available for $485 from Division Road.

2) Mission Workshop: The Rhake

Mission Workshop is most well known for their techwear and modular Arkiv backpacks, but their semi-newly released Rhake backpack certainly deserves just as much attention. It features a wide range of storage options including a padded laptop slot, tablet slot, main rolltop compartment, and a slew of small pockets for your personal effects. It’s available in both black and alpine white MultiCam camo Cordura fabric as well as a range of non-camo patterned fabrics if you want something a bit more understated.

Available for $455 from Mission Workshop in Black Camo and Alpine Camo.

3) C6: Field Pack

C6’s Field Pack design is a bit more understated than many of the other bags on this list, but, at least in my opinion, this is a great way to make the camo stand out less than it otherwise would. That said, this bag still has enough room for storing everything you might need with a padded laptop slot, main pouch, and two flapped front pockets. It’s made out of high-quality Cordura fabric with metal closure clips and even a hidden pocket to hold your umbrella. It comes in two different colorways of understated camo to keep your look as minimalist as possible.

Available for $275 from C6 in Military Camo and Black Camo.

4) Battenwear: Eitherway Olive/Camo

Battenwear’s Eitherway backpack is another example of an understated camo backpack. Unlike much of the bag industry these days, Battenwear is keeping this as classic as possible—one main compartment and one front-zipped pocket for all your smaller items. Constructed in the USA from 1.9oz. ripstop nylon produced by Cordura, one of the leaders in synthetic fabric manufacturing, this bag is made to stand up to anything you can throw at it.

Available for $240 from Maplestore.

5) End x Clarks: Rolltop Bag GTX

Camo-Backpacks---Five-Plus-One-5)-End-x-Clarks-Rolltop-Bag-GTX

End x ClarksRolltop Bag GTX features a pixelated, digital-style camo pattern, which is quite different from the other camo versions on this list. Personally, I think this style, especially when matched with the rolltop style of this bag, makes for a much tech-ier style, which some might find more attractive. This pack is constructed using a printed leather and features a vertically-zipped back pouch, a main rolltop compartment (secured with a cobra clasp), and two side pockets.

Available for $409 from End Clothing in Earth Pixel and Grey Pixel.

Plus One – Il Bisonte: Camaiore Backpack in Bosco & Naturale Camouflage

Camo-Backpacks---Five-Plus-One-Plus-One---Il-Bisonte-Camaiore-Backpack-in-Bosco-&-Naturale-Camouflage

Il Bisonte’s Camaiore Backpack features a version of Bosco camo that almost looks like a topological map of sorts with the addition of the brand’s namesake animal printed throughout. It’s made in Italy out of a printed cotton canvas with natural leather detailing throughout. While simple in design and not visually the largest pack on the market, this bag features a surprisingly large amount of storage options with a flapped main compartment, zipped gusseted for volume increase, laptop slot, and just about all the pocket storage options you could hope for.

Available for $545 from Unionmade.
