I’m going to be honest, trying to unpick what Earth\Studies is all about was tough. If Leo da Vinci was a writer he would have written the brand’s “About” page. It’s artsy, enigmatic, and a bit nebulous all at the same time. But, guess what, the clothes are dope so clearly it’s working.
For those unfamiliar, Earth\Studies is a contemporary clothing brand with a focus on sustainability, simplicity, and functionality. Its ethos revolves around using sustainable materials and ethical production practices to minimize its environmental impact. The brand is all about the outdoors. If Satta and Snow Peak had a baby, you’d get Earth Studies. It’s elevated gorpcore at its finest.
The brand’s designs are typically characterized by clean lines and minimalist aesthetics, allowing the garments to transition seamlessly from town to trail. Recently, the brand dropped its latest collection, titled “Experiment_10”, which we’re about to do a little deep-dive into. So, whip out your Bunsen burners, get the ol’ trusty lab goggles on and let’s get, er, experimenting?
According to Earth\Studies, its projects “take inspiration from landscapes, geologies and atmospheres to unlock a collaborative expression between human and non-human creativities.” This ethos has clearly cascaded down into its latest collection because the color palette screams Fall with browns, creams, and khakis taking center stage.
The brand’s MP-103 Field Pants, which have been based on French workwear and S.T.S. era spacesuit designs, have been traditionally handspun out of existing fabrics Earth\Studies had at the factory. The pants, which are weighty with a loose, straight, drapey fit feature a zip-fly with snap closure, a built-in web belt with aircraft aluminium hook closure, a clean external finish with interior seams, and more pockets than you could shake a stick at. Climber pants on steroids.
My last pick is Earth\Studies’ EQ-115 Crew hat. The hat comes in one size and fits most humanoid craniums, according to the brand, which is good because we haven’t discovered alien head measurements just yet. Inclusivity is key. The cap features a six-panel construction, shock cord fitment with cinch toggle, which I’m a huge, huge fan of, and a DIY farraday lining for resistance to thought manipulation. Gosh.
