Gustin often gets heat amongst serious denim heads, but hang fire on this Fade of the Day because Chris Johnsen’s impressive 1968 Cone 14 oz. jeans tick all the boxes – they’ve got honeycombs, whiskers, and some nice profiles on each back pocket.
Chris was seriously dedicated to this pair and wore them without fail for a year while working as a welder. That explains how they got those cool rust-colored gradients on the thighs, which still remain despite being washed seven times in the last twelve months. Of course, having taken such a thrashing at his day job, these Gustin classics have undergone a couple of repairs – Chris took his sewing machine to the knees and hems to keep them intact but kept the scuffs on the seat for effect. This is one top-class example of well-worn American denim.
