The MotivMfg x Division Road French Shipyard Type I Is Made From ‘Reversed’ Bedford Cord

What’s the secret to designing a new and exciting piece of clothing? There are different schools of thought, but something we’ve found to resonate well is when brands take a few key inspirations from the past, and instead of going full repro, create something altogether new from these classic roots.

MotivMFG and Division Road Inc. took this principle to heart with their collaborative French Shipyard Type I Jacket. Drawing inspiration from several genres of classic workwear, the jacket is largely a tribute to French naval pieces. Using a 12 oz. reversed Bedford corduroy, a play on a European Industrial Revolution essential, this jacket has some of the design features we’re used to seeing in denim Type I jackets. With handsome pleats both front and back, as well as a cinch-back, the old school denim DNA is pretty clear. The anatomically-tailored fit is designed to move, and weighing in at 12 oz., the corduroy from the legendary Brisbane Moss mill in England will be an all-around great outer layer for the Spring time.
