Fade Friday – Shockoe Atelier Slim Kojima (4 Years, 5 Washes)

Bob in the Netherlands has been wearing his Shocktoe Atelier Kojima Jeans over the course of 4 years and boy, has it been a journey! Bought in 2019 at Stuff Fine Goods in Düsseldorf, these were our guy’s first pair of niche-brand selvedge denim jeans. And although at the time he had no idea what slubby meant, Bob soon found out that the interesting texture his jeans possessed made them an interesting wear-in detail.

Though starting their journey as a ‘wear to work’ option, Bob was confronted with a roadblock few denim heads have ever considered. ‘Are these jeans too faded for work?!’ Must be a nice problem to have. However when COVID started, although turning the world upside down, it meant one less decision in the denim-wearing department.

Now at roughly 600 wear days, it’s clear that his persistence has paid off. With bright thigh and seat fades and crease lines down the denim highway right to the shins, these jeans have it all. So when Bob closed his submission asking our advice as to whether he should retire these joints or keep ’em going, we say keep the train rolling as long as they are structurally sound. And when they aren’t, and you’re hovering over an indecent exposure charge, send ’em back into Shocktoe for a vacation and tune-up.
