Filson’s Logger Cap is Timeless in Tin Cloth

Filson does a lot of things really well, but if there’s one feature that stands out as representative of the brand’s defining characteristics, it is Tin Cloth. As stout and hearty as the Pacific Northwestern loggers and longshoremen for whom the fabric was originally intended, it is a unifying theme that runs throughout many of Filson’s most admired products.

A Filson logo is subtly embroidered in the lower-left-hand corner just above the brim, but this is hardly necessary, as the fabric itself stands alone as an unmistakable representation of the Seattle-based apparel manufacturer. Your favorite sports team may need a trademarked logo emblazoned upon distinctive color combinations to proclaim allegiance, but Filson just needs some tan tin cloth.

The boilerplate six-panel hat is equipped with a leather band that is adjusted with a brass clasp (whether this is solid or plated is undetermined). As cool as it would be in theory if the tin cloth was waxed, it is not, which actually makes the hat far more functional. The dry fabric, as it is called, is far more breathable and better suited for warmer weather.
