Fade of the Day – Pure Blue Japan XX-18oz.-013 (13 Months, 1 Wash, 2 Soaks)

Today’s Fade of the Day is a pair of Pure Blue Japan xx-18oz-013’s that saw a year of wear before hitting retirement in place of a pair of Iron Hearts. They come to us from Shahriyan Naufal and the fades he has achieved this time around are worth noting.

These PBJ’s are Shahriyan’s second pair of raw denim, and he told us that his fade strategy is basically to “just wear it daily and you will see the sick fades! We bleed indigo!” Honeycombing took shape, subtle stacking on top of cuff creases became apparent, and some nice whiskering took hold. There are abrasions and tears of varying sizes throughout the jeans, the most notable of which being the large tear in the back left thigh.

In the event these come out of retirement, there’s some indigo left to bleed, which means fades to be had. But if not, they’re a nice reminder of what time and wear can do to raw denim.
