Big news denim dudes and dudettes. Okayama based indigo giants Japan Blue Jeans has launched its own webstore and denimheads worldwide can now access a huge range of the brand’s product with ease. Started in 2010 by COLLECT Mills, the brand hit the ground running with years of industry experience under their belts.
With a focus on quality fabrics and contemporary fits, Japan Blue is seen as a more affordable option than other Japanese labels out there, while still maintaining a high level of quality with textbook Japanese attention to detail. Over the last 9 years, the Okayama brand has forged a reputation with international recognition and an image that is firmly planted at the heart of the country’s denim scene.
While the world is inevitably getting smaller and we can now access most things at the click of a button or three, there is still an elusive and mythical allure with certain Japanese clothing. That allure is availability (the lack of). Many consumers in the West need to use a proxy to purchase product via sites like Rakuten Global. But–in the words of Dylan–the times they are a changin’. Japanese brands are recognizing the global demand for their product and changing their approach to marketing. And this couldn’t come too soon for fans of Japan Blue.
The launch of the brand’s webstore brings a variety of indigo drenched product to the international customer from jeans and jackets to shirting and accessories – all with free worldwide shipping on orders over $150. Highlights include the J6163IDZS Prep (Stitch) 13.5oz vintage selvedge jeans, made from Côte d’lvoire cotton that is handpicked from cultivation to harvest, the 7.7oz T-shirt made from 24 gauge cotton of the same origin, and the J415211 Field Jacket, constructed from a high density cotton/hemp blend fabric.
While a large portion of the Japan Blue offering is geared towards a contemporary interpretation of denim classics, the brand also channel more obvious denim heritage with the Tailored 20’s Work Denim Coverall which is a reproduction of an early 20th century chore coat made from a neppy denim which utilizes recycled yarns. Similarly, the Revolve Remake Military Denim Shirt channels the heritage of Japanese boro craft, with patchwork and repairs throughout.
