If there’s anything cooler than a nice patina on waxed canvas and veg-tan leather, it’s the story behind them. Today’s Fade of the Day is a Farmer’s Racer 12.2 Liter Bag that comes to us from the brand’s founder, Lars Gustavsson. Lars has been making these 18 oz. waxed cotton bags since 2012 using hand tools and vintage sewing machines.
Four years of sunlight, rain, wind and motorcycle riding have shaped the bag into the deep, multi-toned specimen we see today. The once-sandy veg tan backpack straps have transformed into a deep brown patina and the interior has darkened significantly.
Lars treats the bag once or twice a year and says they’re built to last decades. Right now, we’ll have to take his word for it, but we look forward to seeing the continuing transformation for many years down the line.
