Long Sleeve Polo Shirts – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

While I rarely find myself wearing preppy clothing, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate Americana classics like penny loafers, chino shorts, and yes, even polo shirts. While most polos come with short sleeves today we’re taking a look at their long sleeved counterparts. Perfect for chillier spring days and great with both shorts and chinos, long sleeved polos are fine fashion filler.

1) L.L. Bean: Long Sleeve Polo

On the other hand, while I would never suggest someone break their budget on a piece of clothing, Andersen-Andersen‘s Long Sleeve Polo is certainly a great option if you’re looking for a new shirt in this style and want to pay for the very best. Made in Italy from 100% cotton jersey fabric, this three-button long sleeve polo is one of the best options out there.

It’s lightweight, has immaculate construction, and comes in several great colorways. If you’re only going to own one polo shirt you’d be hard pressed to find a better pick.

Available for $245 from Division Road.

3) Howlin’: Mister W Polo

While Howlin’ is best known for their sweaters, the Mister W Polo shows that their top-notch offerings extend far beyond the world of knitwear. It’s a solid shirt all around, featuring a terry cloth fabric made from an 80%/20% cotton/polyester and ribbing at the cuffs, collar, and hem. It forgoes that scratchy texture we all remember from childhood, and while I’m all for nostalgia that’s something I can get behind.

Available for $156 from Lost & Found.

4) Barbour: Waffle Rugby Shirt

Barbour‘s Waffle Rugby Shirt is an excellent option for anyone looking to pick up a new, long sleeve polo. The waffle knit fabric gives this shirt a great deal of texture that looks great with the single chest pocket, and give it ever more warmth if you’re going to wear it on chillier days. It features a two-button placket and ribbed collar, which only adds to the great texture of shirt.

Available for $140 from Barbour.

Belafonte Ragtime puts together some truly interesting pieces, as is exemplified in their Argyle Long Sleeve Polo. While certainly not a shirt that stays under the radar, this made in Japan 100% cotton polo is a great piece in its own right.
