Fade Friday – Studio D’Artisan G-004 (4.5 Years, 5 Washes, 10 Soaks)

For longer than most people are in high school or college, Nick in San Fran has been in the literal lab perfecting the science behind denim fading. And as it turns out, a Noble Prize is in the works because he’s cracked it with his G-004s from Studio D’Artisan serving as a pretty convincing proof of concept. Starting as the primary jean in his rotation from Feb 2019 to Feb 2021-ish, they were given some vacation time via a reduced schedule allowing them to get their reps in while minimizing burnout.

Now they are worn daily for work at a chemistry lab (see, I wasn’t joking) but also mirror Nick’s life off the clock, getting worn for yard work, home repairs, and short hikes. But if you are wondering about ‘ingredient x’ in his miracle indigo mixture, it would have to be good old-fashioned H2O. Or rather these jeans’ healthy relationship to water. After an initial soak and 3-month wear period, these things were soaked every other month – or whenever they got dirty. That was Year 1. Year 2 they graduated to machine washes and never looked back.

Combine all of this with a periodic table here and there, test tube and vile ever so often, and of course, a lab coat and safety goggles, and you get results that speak so well for themselves that we don’t even need to talk about them.
