Stevenson Overall Co. Channels 60s Lee With Its 10.5 oz. Rough Rider Cowboy Jacket

If there was ever a brand that could pull off a tweaked remake of the classic Lee 101 rider jacket, it’s Stevenson Overall Co. So, grab your stirrups and Stetson and giddy up, because Stevenson Overall’s Rough Rider is a doozy.

Based on the ‘60s era Lee Rider jackets famously sported by the likes of Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, and Alain Delon, Stevenson Overall Co.’s Rough Rider jacket is constructed from a specially developed Japanese 10.5 oz selvedge ‘Jelt’ denim, which has been slowly and tightly (sorry, slub heads) woven on vintage looms. The warp has been thread-dyed with genuine indigo and the weft sulfur thread-dyed to achieve a grey tone, meaning the resulting fabric is sure to fade beautifully with wear, giving way to authentic, subtle fading true to this jacket’s mid-century roots.

Stevenson doubled up on Lee’s iconic zig-zag stitching to create a charming diamond pattern on the button placket and built the jacket with oxidized iron doughnut buttons, side adjusters, and a classic boxy fit, just like the original. Made in Japan, the Rough Rider exhibits Atsu Tagaya’s flair for subtly reworking a classic to create a garment that worships an icon whilst standing out in its own right.
